Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Constituency Projects During Six-Month Suspension

Lokoja, Kogi State

During the six months of her suspension from the Senate, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central remained active in her constituency, undertaking a series of projects and empowerment initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and infrastructure in the district.

One of her major initiatives was the construction of two modern markets in Okene and Okehi, which are scheduled for completion by November this year. According to her office, the markets are being built with facilities to support small businesses, particularly women traders, and to stimulate local economic activity.

In the area of education and technology, the Senator distributed 700 HP laptops to students across her constituency. Beyond simple educational support, she also launched training programs in data analysis to ensure the beneficiaries could put the devices to effective use in both academic and practical fields.

As part of her focus on vocational empowerment, Akpoti-Uduaghan organized training sessions in solar installation for youths, followed by the distribution of equipment to enable them to apply their newly acquired skills in real life. A similar initiative was carried out in welding, where participants were not only trained but also provided with tools to support them in starting small-scale enterprises and sustaining livelihoods.

Healthcare also featured prominently in her efforts. Her office facilitated the provision of hospital equipment to facilities within the constituency. Additionally, work is ongoing on the construction of a Mother and Child Care Hospital, a project that, when completed, is expected to improve maternal and child health services in the district.

Beyond infrastructure and training, the Senator continued with what her aides described as “human empowerment” programs, targeted interventions to support individuals and groups within her constituency in navigating everyday economic challenges.

While opinions may differ on the wider political context surrounding her suspension and reinstatement, the series of constituency-focused projects during the period has drawn attention to her approach of continuing service delivery outside the legislative chambers. Supporters view the initiatives as evidence of her commitment to grassroots development, while critics argue that more measurable impact will be seen only when the projects are completed and sustained.
