Kogi Govt. Responds Swiftly to Child Abuse Allegations Against Sharon Sonia

Lokoja, May 15, 2025

The Kogi State Government has formally launched an investigation into allegations of child abuse involving Ms. Blessing Oyiza Muhammed, popularly known as Sharon Sonia. The accused is said to have abused a 12-year-old girl placed under her custody.

In a public statement released by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Child Abuse, Mrs. Jemilat Muhammed, it was confirmed that the case has been officially transferred to the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs for a comprehensive probe. The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to justice and the protection of child rights in the state.

The Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, earlier today, personally assured the Office of the SSA on Child Abuse that her ministry has already commenced a thorough investigation into the matter. She reiterated that anyone found culpable, regardless of their status, will face the full weight of the law, in accordance with the Child Rights Act and other applicable laws in Kogi State.

The statement also lauded the persistent efforts of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Child Abuse, commending her resolve in advocating for the welfare and protection of children across the state. Her office, it said, continues to champion the rights of vulnerable children, serving as a beacon of hope for the voiceless.

“This case is a grim reminder of the threats children still face, but it also reaffirms our collective responsibility to protect them,” the statement read. “The Kogi State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of child abuse, neglect, and injustice.”

The government called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of abuse, as it strengthens its campaign to create a safer, more just environment for every child in Kogi State.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in due course.
